How does JAUS fit into the Atlassian ecosystem?

Some JAUS Userscripts may offer a feature strikingly similar to some feature request still open or disregarded in jira.atlassian.com, or that a Marketplace App provides — it’s only expected you ask where does JAUS stand in the Atlassian ecosystem!

JAUS and the Marketplace

JAUS Userscripts are only able to do what the user could do him or herself from the Browser — it can’t persist data or share data with other users like Marketplace Apps can. It also doesn’t integrate seamlessly into Jira like full fledged Marketplace Apps do.

The JAUS Team are enthusiasts of Atlassian Marketplace and encourage you to look for Admin enabling Apps and try them out on evaluation licenses! The features they provide are something to behold!

Also, please keep in mind JAUS Team is composed by volunteers that can’t commit to the level of service App developing companies do.

JAUS and Jira feature requests

Like with Apps, Userscripts would never match in overall a built-in feature — specially when you consider Userscripts may break when Jira’s UI or endpoints change! The Team will try it’s best to provide a fixed version upon users complaints through our Help Portal, but still it may take some time.

Atlassian’s robust Feature Implementation Policy may not address your specific needs while other features and bug fixes keep being prioritized over to the upcoming releases. There are features requests that have been sitting there for 5+ years and some may sit for yet another 5 and more... you are right — and encouraged by us! — to push for them in jira.atlassian.com. Please vote, watch and comment in the feature requests you want to see implemented!

JAUS was idealized to give the Jira Admins in the Community something back to ease the pain in the meantime.
